HST In Ontario and british Columbia
Ontario and B.C. are set to harmonize their sales tax with the federal GST on July 1, 2010. Like the HST in the Maritimes, the Ontario and B.C. HST will be administered by the CRA, allowing the provinces to save millions of dollars in administration costs. Ontario’s HST will be 13%, which is comprised of the 5% GST and 8% Ontario tax, while B.C.’s HST will be 12%, which is comprised of the 5% GST and 7% B.C. tax. The Ontario and B.C. HST will generally use the same rules and tax base as the GST. For more information on the HST please take a look at the following BDO Tax Bulletins.
