Jean J. Bélanger joined the BDO Financial Advisory Services Group as a Partner in 2002. Over the previous 21 years, he was with the Financial Advisory Services Group at PricewaterhouseCoopers and Deloitte.
Jean is bilingual (French and English) and is located in our Montréal office. Since 1981, Jean has created a specific practice niche as an expert in business valuation, due diligence and forensic accounting.
His business valuation experience in numerous different industries has provided Jean with the opportunity to work with companies in Canada and abroad who are looking to either sell or purchase companies or who wish to reorganize companies or their capital structure for transactions, financial reporting and/or litigation support purposes.
Jean has acted as an expert in supporting buyers in the due diligence process including analysis of the proposed transaction on different aspects such as finance, accounting, tax, environment and information systems, human resources, technical and commercial aspects, operational and others. His team can also provide assistance in legal and intellectual property analysis.
Jean also acted in forensic accounting as an expert witness during legal proceedings (claims, breach of contract, slander, misrepresentation, shareholder disputes, misappropriation of funds, insurance coverage, etc.) in accordance with civil and criminal procedures, including the collection of information, the review of Court records, the preparation of claims, and the presentation of evidence to the Court.
As an advisor to small and medium enterprises, Jean has worked closely with entrepreneurs in their search for financing, preparation of business plans, financial and strategic planning, due diligence, operational reorganization and financial control reviews.
Jean holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and is a CA, a CBV and a CFE. He is also a member of the CICA Alliance for Excellence in Investigative and Forensic Accounting (CA•IFA). He has spoken at numerous seminars on business valuation, due diligence and forensic accounting for the past 20 years.
